Cal High Post Card

What is your favorite image and what does it represent?
My favorite image is the one that I spread from the I to the H because it is a picture of me with all of my friends and it is a symbol of my friends and all the time we spent together.
What do you like about your postcard?
I like that I managed to get all of my friends on it and take pictures from meaningful events.
What could you have improved upon?
I could have spent a little more time moving my friends into better positions on the letter.
Explain what a layer mask does?
It is a tool on photoshop that can be used to hide certain aspects of a picture or reveal layers beneath the layer covered with a layer mask.

Advertising Project Carlos G, Claudio R, Bryan D & Trevor L

1.We used shoes as our product because we think that shoes are a cool product and thought they could make an interesting photo.
2. Our big idea was to highlight the shoes with a plain white background we were kind of successful, we did this by using layer masks to mask around the shoes and putting the same picture in the background that we desaturated all the way to make it as white as possible.
3. We used lighting from behind and the sides to attempt to adequately light up the shoes, we used some direct and diffused lighting. We shot against a white surface to highlight the color of the shoes.

Web quest Reflection

For this project I learned a lot about what it takes to make a good photo and how composition is important in doing this. I learned the rule of odds that a photo is more interesting when there are an odd number of subjects in an image. I also learned that the best kind of background to have is a simple one without anything that distracts from the subject. I learned that it can make an interesting picture if you fill up the frame with the subject. In addition to this I learned to try a lot of different angles and vantage points for a picture. Lastly I learned that in an action shot leaving space for a subject to go can make a picture better.

Still Life

1. What was your reason for your arrangement and background color?
The reason for may arrangement was to use the objects of a toy plane, small ice skates to tell a story about a little kid with their toys or something and I chose the background color because it looked cool.
2.How is the lighting in your image (direct, diffused, etc.)?
For the second and third pictures I used diffused lighting while for the first picture I used direct lighting.
3. What adjustments did you use?
I used hue and saturation adjustments, vibrance adjustments, levels, and brightness/contrast adjustment layers for all three and for the first one I used these adjustment layers and a desaturation to make it black and white.
4. How could you improve your composition?
I could improve my composition by taking a clearer picture and spending more time setting up the the lighting to make it look better.

Surreal Image

1. My image is about a stadium in the middle of the desert with a giant plant right next to it.
2. It was easy to find something were I could put stairs in the middle of the desert but it was hard to come up with a good idea.
3. I used layer mask tools, the brush tool and the polygon selection tool to isolate the parts of images that I wanted.
4.  I could better blend and fit images into the picture better.

Ted Talk

What is the most important aspect when creating his work?
To make the photo look seamless and real, capturing an idea rather than an actual possible picture. They must have the same lighting and perspective to combine photos.

What do you find interesting about his work?
The way he is able to makes seeming realistic pictures that are impossible shots in reality.

HDR

In photography HDR means High Dynamic Range it means that a photo will have greater detail in light and dark areas of a photo.
Way 1:
It can be achieved by taking 3 photos one that is bright, one that is medially lit up and one that is dark and combining them into one photo.

Way 2:
Another way that it can be achieved is by using a camera or iPhone 6 or later and shooting in HDR mode.

I like this photo because of the way the range of light to dark and the way the streets are lit up it looks really awesome.

The best elements of art are in the tree bark picture because you can clearly see the texture of the tree and a line.
What principles of design are used in your favorite image?
There is pattern used in my favorite picture because you can see pattern in the center of the flower and in the leaves.

Exploring Landscape

Image 1

Image 2

Image 3

Did you use the rule of thirds? What did you emphasize with it sky or land? (5/0)
My favorite image is the third one. I used the rule of thirds in the photo and used the sky to emphasize by having sky take the top third.

What Principles of design did you use and how? (5/0)

I used emphasis seen by the differences between the light poles and the trees and proportion with all the spacing in the photo. There is a variety of plants and random trash cans. There is repetition with the trees and light poles.

What time of day was your image taken? Was it a good time to shoot or not? Why?
(5/0)
This was taken at 2 in the afternoon it was not a good time to shoot for many reasons the first being the lighting was too bright and it was hard to get a good picture and there was a class that kept walking through were I was trying to shoot.

How did you use the foreground/background relationship? (5/0)
The images seen in the foreground are bigger and clearer with the small details about them being easier to see.

Black and White Questions
 1. Which method do you think produced the best result for you?
I think the gradient effect created the best effect because it looks better and has a large range of value.
2. Did you achieve a large value range for each image? If not, which methods worked the best?
They all have a decent range of value for each of them except for the lab color method because that is pretty much all one color.

Close up landscape

1. How was using the macro lens?

It was easy to put onto my phone but it was very difficult to get a picture that was focused and not blurry.
2. Which is your favorite shot and why?

I like my second shot because it shows cool details of the plant and it is clear and has good coloring on it.
 3. Which shot shows the best use of the rule of thirds?

The second shot shows the best use of the rule of thirds because it is slightly of centered while the other ones are in the middle.
4. What principles of design are used in your favorite image?
There are emphasis and proportion used in the second photo because there are interesting size differences in the different leaves and there is a clear leaf that is emphasized.

Video Questions

How can you view Cal High differently?
You can plan out a shot using Cal to tell a story or think about what the most impressive aspects about it are.

How could you photograph it differently to make it look exciting and interesting?
You can try to take a lot of different pictures with different perspectives and angles to get the best possible shot.

Cinemagraph

1. Our Team's concept was to have bubbles shown moving without me making any movement at all, I would say that we were successful because you can only see movement by the bubbles and I am stuck in the same position the whole time.
2. I was most involved in the creative and technical part of the process as I help set up the scene as we wanted it and came up with the idea it as well as doing a lot of the photoshop process.
3.  I would have try to set up the camera settings and lighting to make the video a little more clear than it turned out to be.
4. This wasn't a particularly difficult project except for maybe making it clear the best camera settings to use.
5. We balanced the work really well between all of us, with everyone contributing something in each part of the project. So I would say we worked well as a team.

Shooting Water Droplets

Colored water no flash
F8 Shutter Speed: 1/500 s ISO:3200

1. It was very difficult to get a good shot because it was hard to focus on the right area and to be able to take an image that was light enough
2. I didn't like how difficult it was to set up the lights so that we could get enough light into the photo.

Shooting water in burst mode.

1. It was pretty difficult to get a good shot because it took a lot of time and patience to try and get a good shot.
2. I liked how easy it was to get  a lot of shots in burst mode and it was easier to focus the camera.

Burst mode colored water

1. It was difficult to get a good shot from the best angle to show of the colored water interacting with the droplet.
2. Our team tried a lot of different angles to get the best shot and best show the interaction between the water and the colored drop.

Shooting Water With Flash
F8 Shutter Speed: 1/500 s ISO:1600

1.  This was the easiest shot to get a good picture before because the flash allowed us to not have to worry as much about the lighting.
2. I liked that shooting with flash allowed us to not have to do as much lighting set-up and still be able to get a good focused picture.

Artificial Motion

1. My image looks kind of real with the tires blurred but it doesn't quite have a realistic look to it.

Jumping Heel Click

Jumping Heel Click

Description: Trevor starts walking towards the end of the stage to gain momentum, then he initiates take off jumping off one foot, in the air he clicks his heels together and absolutely sticks the landing with his arms out like he is a airplane.

Questions 1-3:
1. The camera that I used was my phone the burst mode was extremely easy to use I just held down the camera button and it took a lot of pictures in a short amount of time.
2. My favorite frame is the picture is the one where you can see Trevor's heel click because the motion is completely stopped and it is frozen in midair and looks awesome.
3. I think action photography is cool because you can use a camera to literally freeze people and events even if they are in motion.
